Because women deserve equal opportunities
Women's competitive road cycling has the potential to become of of the world's fastest growing sports, but it lacks many of the funding sources and support infrastructure which sustains men's racing. The Inga Thompson Foundation believes women should have the same opportunities to succeed in cycling as men do today. Our mission is to nurture competitive women cyclists with merit and needs based financial assistance grants, mentoring and promotional support to provide them with the freedom to pursue athletic excellence and the tools and skills to be successful professional athletes as the sport of women's cycling grows.
'Half the Road' shows how equal pain doesn't mean equal rewards for women in cycling
In the documentary "Half the Road" there's a shot of cyclist Kristin Armstrong crashing in the middle of making a turn.
It's clear by the look on Armstrong's face as she writhes on the pavement that her pain and disappointment is as real as any other athlete who suffers a career-altering injury.
